Go Orange!

Orange is a color that is actually the combination of two colors, red and yellow. Red and yellow are great, don’t get me wrong. But combining red and yellow makes a color, orange, that is more vibrant, interesting, and alive than either of the two colors by themselves.

“Orange Families” is a dream to see parents and the church as powerful partners leading children in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. As the church partners with parents something amazing can happen. Too often the church doesn’t engage or resource parents to be the primary leaders in the development of their children’s faith. Too often parents drop their children off at church expecting the church to “fix” them. But what if the church and parents came together with a common vision and strategy to lead the next generation into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ? It could change the world and eternity forever one family at a time!

Practically speaking, this blog is a conversation. We want to start conversations with and among parents. We want to help parents lead their children in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We want to get out to you, the parent, biblically sound ideas, useful resources, helpful tips, wacky games, crazy activities, etc. to help you lead your family toward Jesus.

Bookmark this in your favorites. Email the link to friends. Check back often. Go orange! A special thanks to Reggie Joiner at ReThink for helping me see the value of the partnership.

Adam:

If you are friends with the LifeChurch and Catalyst guys, then we will get along great!

Just today, I was thinking about creating a site just like yours….then after reading through a few blogs and clicking more links, somehow I ended up here.

You asked for crazy ideas above and I thought I would pass one on I just now discovered.

I just finished giving my 7 year old son a bubble bath and learned a new trick. If you get the pile of bubbles big enough, you can create a cool effect by crabbing one end of a small towel and swing it in circles above the pile of bibles. A ‘fan effect’ is created and the pile of bubbles explode throughout the bathroom. As long as you don’t mind making a wet soapy mess (which I don’t), it is a lot of fun!

I can’t see how this has anything to do with connecting with Jesus (or maybe it does), but my son laughed so hard…..it made me smile…
Take Care, MM

Thanks Matthew! Love the bath time story. I thinking laughing with kids is leading them closer to Jesus.

The bath story is great because when we love our children and play with them we teach them that God is loving and fun. Any christian counsler will tell you that your view of your parents will often be your view of God. If your father or mother was demanding and angry then you could very likely view God that way until you get to know him and realize that he does not have our human flaws and that he ‘is love’. Very often I feel Gods love towards me from my husband or my children. It just makes sense that my children would feel Gods love through me. So have fun with your children and then in the teachable moments they will be listening to you because they love and respect you. Because you have their heart.
