Can I believe and have questions?

Do you ever have questions about faith even in the middle of believing? Do you ever find yourself saying, “I believe in Jesus and I trust the Bible, but I just don’t get how x, y, or z works?” It’s not that you have disbelief or that you really even have doubts, but you feel like you’re doing something wrong because you have these questions that no one else seems to have?

You’re not alone. The truth is that we all have questions that range from major ones that keep us up at night to painful ones to simple curiosities. If any ever tels you that they don’t have questions, they’re lying! Anselm said that we all have “faith that is seeking understanding. Mary, when approached by Gabriel to announce she would give birth to Jesus, asked, “How will this work?”

You’re not doing anything wrong. It’s not a sin to ask how faith works itself out in your life. In fact, I think that God is more honored in your honest pursuit of knowing him and how he is moving in your world that just relenting to, “I guess I’ll just have to wait until heaven to know that one.”I have to think that God loves a curious follower of Jesus.

Parents, don’t squash your children’s curiosity. Encourage them to ask any and every question they have. Help them have an honest and real relationship with Jesus and not a cold, religiously pious heart.
